Policy Position Statement

Max Fisher for Virginia House of Delegates

As a candidate for Virginia's House of Delegates, I, Max Fisher, bring a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the working class's needs. With over 20 years of experience as a union worker in the private sector, and having spoken at the CWA national convention and led representation elections, I am uniquely equipped to advocate for workers' rights and support unions in our state.

The contrast between my opponent and me is quite clear. Unlike her, I have been a part of the union, participated in it, and paid my dues. I understand the balance between workers' rights and the role of unions in protecting those rights.

As a Republican candidate, I am committed to upholding traditional conservative values while ensuring the protection of workers. I firmly support the rights to organize and to work, which are the fundamental values that make America a land of opportunity.

To ensure accountability within unions, I will advocate for legislation that allows workers to voice their concerns about their union's performance without fear of retaliation. One such legislation could be the introduction of a "Duty of Fair Representation Complaint" mechanism at the state level, providing workers an avenue to seek redress if they feel their union is not adequately representing their interests.

While the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is primarily a federal issue, I believe in the importance of state advocacy in highlighting its limitations. I will advocate for state resolutions calling for a review and reform of the NLRA to address the unfair disadvantages it imposes on union members, particularly the limitation on their right to strike.

In addition, I will propose and champion legislation that promotes equal pay for equal work, ensuring all Virginians are fairly compensated, regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity. I will also support legislation that guarantees safe working conditions and protects benefits for part-time workers, recognizing the valuable contributions these workers make to our economy.

To help Virginians adapt to the changing job market, I will advocate for legislation that provides resources for job training and career advancement opportunities, ensuring our workforce remains competitive in the face of technological advancements and economic shifts.

As your delegate, I commit to protecting workers' rights, supporting unions, and ensuring that all Virginia workers have a fair chance to thrive. Vote Max Fisher for a future where workers' rights are protected, unions are held accountable, and everyone has an opportunity to succeed.
